The Best Soup and Sandwich Combos in the City Centre
The Soup & Sandwich combo, unrivaled as the king of combos. Mac & Cheese, Strawberries & Cream, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Cookies & Milk – it reigns above all.
We don’t know about you guys, but sometimes’s it’s the simplest of things that can seem hard to find when you’re put on the spot. We’ve had plenty of conversations in the middle of a #DublinTown street racking our brains as to where we’d get a simple yet elusive sandwich with a cuppa soup.
Well, fear not. The lack of knowledge as to where you can get your craved soup and sandwich combo is now no more. We’ve compiled a list of the best cafés and restaurants that confidently serve the deadly duo.
The Pepperpot Café
Powerscourt Townhouse Centre
If we ever compile a list of the ‘best of’s’ in the city, we will always try to include The Pepperpot Pear & Bacon sandwich. Best lunch dish? This sandwich. Best fruit dish? This sandwich. Best bacon dish? This sandwich. Best sandwich? This sandwich. It’s the light of our lives. It’s the creation of the century. Words cannot describe it’s beauty, it’s taste, it’s hold over all other sandwiches. The Pepperpot offer a Mini Soup as an addition to any meal for €2.50. Their soup is always fresh and delicious, and their sandwiches are alright too we suppose…..
South William Street
A personal favourite of ours is Metro Cafe. Located on the inconic South William Street, Metro Cafe has the ability to transport you out of Dublin and into a different city entirely with it’s decor and it’s ambiance. For lunch, they offer a soup and sambo combo for €9.95. It’s great value, it’s delicious and the ingredients are always fresh. We love the Classic Tuna Melt with a cup of their home made soup of the day.
The Tram Café
Wolfe Tone Square
Winners of Best Café Design at the recent Irish Café Awards 2019, The Tram Café is arguably the most charming café in the city centre! Their food is absolutely fantastic too. They have sandwiches for €5, and a soup & sambo is €8. You really can’t complain with that kind-to-the-pocket price, and the food is absolutely delicious as well. We recommend the DublinTown Hottie sandwich – no we didn’t just make that up, it’s a real sandwich – that consists of cheddar, sliced chicken, caramelized onions & grapes with wholegrain, mustard & mayonnaise. You’ll thank us.
Newly Opened as part of Fleet Street hotel Café 1920 is an elegant yet casual dining spot in the centre of the city. They have a soup & sambo combo for €8.50, and to be hoenst we’d pay that just to sit by the open fire in the café and look at the stain glass windows and decadent bar – throw in a soup & sambo and we’re laughin’.
Honest to Goodness
The always honest, fresh and delicious Honest to Goodness Café do a whole load of different types of sambos on Brown, White, or Tomato bread. You can add a soup for €3.50 to any sandwich (€7).
O’Briens Sandwich Café
Abbey Street Lower, Jervis Shopping Centre, Ilac Shopping Centre, Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Talbot Mall
O’Briens’ reputation has been shaped on their famous made-to-order hot or cold sandwiches – these lads know what they’re doing when it comes to lunch. They serve a hot combo that consists of a ham and cheese toastie alongside a cup of their daily soup. Bish bash bosh – take our money.
The Woollen Mills
Liffey Street Lower
The Woollen Mills is a restaurant that has one of the best views in the city. It overlooks the iconic Ha’Penny bridge and River Liffey and it’s just gorge. They serve hearty Irish food with an innovative flair. They have a soup and sambo combo every lunch time for €11.50.
One of the busiest restaurants on this side of the Liffey, Brother Hubbard North are truly a spot you’ll never get tired of visiting. For lunch, they have a wide range of sandwiches, €6.95, and a side of soup is an additional €3.75. Their soups are always different and innovative, with a middle eastern flair.
