Five ideas for a fun alcohol-free night out

A New Year’s Detox? Dry January? Want to liven-up your recovery?  Can’t face the look of another drink after the festive season?  Or just want to nurture the body and soul with a healthy night out?  Whatever your reason, here are some great options for a social night out where alcohol isn’t the focus of the evening…

  1. Numinous Comedy Night

Get your laughing gear on and head out for a great night of stand up in one of Dublin’s trendiest cafes with resident comedian Robert Coyle.  No charge or booking but be warned -get there early as it fills up quickly.

Enjoy a variety of live music at Cornucopia, wholefood and vegetarian restaurant.  Every second Thursday, N.C Lawlor, a songwriter, session player and troubadour plays a mix of country, bluegrass and blues.  Every Friday night Junshi Murakami plays Irish Harp and every Saturday Nollaig Mann plays a collection of popular and jazz classics.

  1. Slam Sunday Poetry Night

First Sunday night of the month 7.00pm to 9.00pm

Each month, Slam Sunday brings some of the city’s finest poets to Accents Coffee and Tea Lounge.  Open to all to take part, 12 contestants and five judges are drawn at random from the audience for a lively competition that sees poems recited from memory.

  1. Tribal Drumming

The Lantern Centre, 17 Synge Street, Dublin 2

Friday nights 8.00pm

Lose yourself in the rhythm after being taught a range of tribal drumming beats on a variety of African drums.  Enjoy a cuppa after and let the evening get your mind off the week and set you up nicely for the weekend.
