Breathing Culture in Dublin

Ben Stafford, The Little Museum

The amazing thing about Dublin is its friendliness. The Little Museum, where I work, was set up thanks to the support and donations of wonderful people bringing a small part of their own history to this place:  a miniature of Wonderly Wagon, Samuel Beckett’s letter to young boy living in his old house, for instance. Also the upcoming exhibition of Bram Stoker memorabilia, brought together by the collector John Moore. As a part of Bram Stoker Festival, we are delighted to re-introduce one of the most renowned literature talents to Dublin’s audience.

My perfect day in Dublin would start with breakfast in Fumbally Cafe on Clanbrassil Street, a great place with unique decor that serves Dublin’s greatest falafel. Another stop would be the Kerlin Gallery off South Anne St. The space is beautiful and they have a fantastic programme, like the William McKeown show a couple of months ago. The Natural History Museum is another favorite spot, and I’m always impressed with the whale hanging from the ceiling. The evening must is a pint in Grogan’s Bar in South William Street. It is the ideal place to enjoy a pint and good company, and features some of the most persistent and limited buskers in town. One guy only knows ‘Happy Birthday’ on the trumpet, but never stops plying his trade. If I had to pick another dining spot, it would be the Winding Stair. Plenty of simple, well-prepared food in a beautiful room.
