Food of life….

Conor and Marc Bereen, Coppinger Row, Dublin 2

Before Coppinger Row we’d looked at a lot of places in London and New York, and I think in Dublin in general we’ve caught up to what’s going on in the international market. We’ve got Joe Macken of Crackbird and Bear, who’s brought a great thing to Dublin with a style of food and service that hadn’t been here before. In terms of places to hang out, we like the steps of Powerscourt just to check out who’s going by, and Indigo and Cloth is a great place to shop for clothes if you fancy that. We admire the fact that there are a lot of independents coming out with their own stuff and getting international labels on board with what they’re doing. The pubs we like going to are places like Grogans and Peter’s Pub but these are insitutions. Nowadays, people want an experience that includes food and drink but without that overcrowded feel. Dublin is going to be filled with restaurants that are very groovy places and filled with people eating good food, drinking great wine and cocktails and listening to good music. The attitude in the city in general seems really positive, and while there’s a lot of doom and gloom in the media about the economy I think people in general are upbeat and doing new things.
