I trained under Vidal Sassoon in London in the 60s, but came to Dublin to open my own salon.
It is very important that that we get a rush out of giving someone a great haircut, and that they love it. We first opened on Fade Street in 1976, and we’re still here today. People travel here from all over the country for the service we offer. We’ve survived a few recessions, because people still want a good haircut.
What we’re known for is precision cutting. When we first opened, people would come in looking for a wash and set, but we would turn them away, because precision cutting is just what we do. We don’t follow trends, but work on a person to person basis. That doesn’t mean we totally ignore trends – at the moment the soft, romantic look is popular – but we don’t follow them exclusively.
Dublin hasn’t really changed since we first opened. Perhaps people are more cosmopolitan, but that’s probably about it. People maybe go for more daring hairstyles… There really is something for everyone. We have the hairdressing school here, and people can also choose from stylists of all levels for appointments, from Junior Stylists to me.
